Brisbane Christian College aspires to excellence in every area. We want to work with parents to ensure children at the College are well-rounded, amazing human beings! While we aspire to academic excellence, we are keenly aware that at the start of each term, children aren’t as excited to come back to start their new Mathematics unit as they are excited to come back to catch up and reconnect with their friends. The social element of school cannot be understated because it provides children with a sense of belonging.
Belonging is the sense of connection with a group or institution, for example, a group of peers, family, or school. Students and staff need to feel like they belong to a social group as well as belong to the school itself.
We were created for the community. People are better when they are connected to each other in meaningful, loving relationships. At Brisbane Christian College, children belong. They are known, they are loved and they are cared for. We have children from all over the world and of all different abilities, and we love that.
But even more important than this sense of connection with Brisbane Christian College is a connection with their Heavenly Father. Within our community, children are given opportunities each and every day to connect with and develop a deeper relationship with Jesus. We want children to know that they are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and that God has a plan and purpose for each and every one of them.
Once we know who we are, then we can also know whose we are. When we realise that we are not accidents, that we were created on purpose and for purpose, then we can begin to find our sense of belonging within a much bigger family: a worldwide family of the followers of Jesus. There is no greater connection to have and no greater sense of belonging.
Brisbane Christian College encourages children to know that they are loved by God, who made them in His image, and that we are God’s children. Our prayer is that each and every child in our College would know and feel this connection each and every day.
