Play-based learning is the central mechanism for learning in our Pre-Prep classes, because children are naturally motivated to play. Through play, they organise and make sense of their worlds as they engage actively with people, objects and representations. In this context, our children explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways.
At Pre-Prep, each child is loved unconditionally and is supported to participate in all the learning experiences. The children are encouraged to make choices and decisions and to have a positive impact on their world.
The children made interesting connections between their own and other cultures during the course of the year which led to them sharing their experiences and ideas with their friends. We explored different cultures around the world comparing and contrasting homes, clothes, food, and weather. Many families contributed by coming to the classrooms to cook food that is traditional to their culture. The children explored Indigenous culture through art, music, stories, and discussions. All these cultural learning experiences culminated in a multi-cultural dress-up day and an interactive Indigenous show. Through these experiences, children feel recognised and respected for who they are and in turn, respond positively to the company of and friendship with others.
As active members of the Pre-Prep community, they have developed a sense of belonging, being, and becoming. The children have learned to persevere with a challenge and act with increasing independence and involvement in their own learning. They have gained increased pride and confidence in who they are, their family, culture, and unique abilities.
This love for learning cultivated at Pre-Prep supports lifelong growth, success, and achievement, as well as an appreciation of the gifts and talents that God has given them.
Thank you to our wonderful families for their continuous involvement. Everyone’s ideas, experiences, and skills were greatly valued and this enabled us to further extend each child’s interests, abilities and knowledge.
