About the Program

The Pathway of Excellence Apprenticeships Program has been designed to provide a pathway for students to pursue an Apprenticeship or Traineeship, rather than a university qualification after graduating from secondary school. This program allows students to gain valuable work experience in their industry of choice, aiming to secure them an Apprenticeship or Traineeship whilst still at school. Students can choose from over 600 Queensland Apprenticeships and Traineeships, and receive a Queensland Certificate of Education upon graduating from school.

POE Apprenticeships is a unique and specialised program of excellence. Unlike many other School-based Apprenticeship (SbA) and School-based Traineeship (SbT) programs, which operate on one day a week of work experience, the POE Apprenticeships Program is structured to give students significant blocks of time in the workplace. This allows students to have much more in-depth and realistic industry experiences. The program works on a four week rotation basis. Students come to the College for a four week learning intensive, studying four core subjects: English Communication, Prevocational Maths, Information Communication and Technology (ICT), and Business. During this period, they are actively seeking work experience with prospective work experience providers. Students then go out into the workforce to complete a four week work experience placement.

The aim for students doing work experience is to learn skills and gain experiences that will help them decide on their career choice. The ultimate goal for students is to obtain a SbA or a SbT, which they will complete during work experience rotation blocks. On completion of the two year course, students will earn a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). When students complete their Apprenticeship or Traineeship, they will qualify for an OP ranking and will still be able to enter university to further their chosen field, if desired.

Mr Llyod

The Pathway of Excellence Apprenticeships (POE Apprenticeships) Program is helping young men and women excel in their chosen industry. We want to see students as passionate, dedicated Apprentices and Trainees, with many opportunities available to them so that they can become leaders in their field.

Brisbane Christian College is providing our Years 11 and 12 students with a solid education program, an alternative to the standard academic pathway, that sees our students graduate with a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and a proportion of their School-based Apprenticeship or School-based Traineeship completed. Students gain a significant period of experience in the workplace through the four-week rotation structure of the program, while also completing four core academic subjects throughout their senior years.

The POE Apprenticeship staff are dedicated to supporting each student through this exciting journey. We work closely with parents and caregivers to ensure that each student is pursuing their passion to achieve success in their chosen field. Our heart is that our students also grow spiritually and emotionally as young adults.

I look forward to partnering with you and your child through our Pathway of Excellence Apprenticeships Program.
